This rattan basket is based on a traditional Shaker basket design using a hexagonal weave for the base. The basket transitions to a plain weave up the sides and is finished with an interesting folded and lashed rim. An attractive fine basket to hold a small project or simply to hang on the wall.

Wendy Jensen will lead participants as they create a Twilled Muffin Basket with Braided Lash during this workshop.
Students will lay out a “spoked” base using rattan flat stakes. A continuous weave will be used to start this basket. The stakes are split and the weave will continue up the sides of the basket with a 2/2 twill weaving pattern. Shaping techniques will be taught as the sides are woven. Rim fitting, scarfing and a decorative “braided” lash will be taught. Basket measures about 4” high by 10” wide, a nice size to serve your favorite muffins.

During this full day workshop, you will make your own Mokok ash bark basket, sew it with spruce root, and rim it with arrowwood or willow. Our instructor, Jennifer Lee, is an independent student of American Indian history and culture, past and present and has been teaching bark basket making for over 20 years.
