Join us for two fun eclectic dance music sessions in our Farmhouse living room on February 25th and March 24th as we begin to build our Fabric of Life Fireside Orchestra. The third session will be an evening of Contra Dancing in Buckland on April 28th where participants are invited to join the band on the tunes learned during the Farmhouse sessions.

Sliding scale (cost for all sessions):
Friend: $10 – Reduced Rate
Admirer: $20 – Covers expenses
Enthusiast: $30 – Covers expenses & contributes to DAK* scholarship fund

Join our FOL community band!

Dance music has an important role in our communities. It brings joy not only to those who play, but also to those who listen or dance. Being a part of this process on any level helps our world become a better place.

 

3 Sundays:

February 25:     4-9 PM at the Farmhouse

March 24:           4-9 PM at the Farmhouse

April 28:               7-9 PM, Dance in Upper Buckland

 

Join us for two fun eclectic dance music sessions in our Farmhouse living room this Winter/Spring season as we begin to build our Fabric of Life Fireside Orchestra. Our leaders will focus on making this session fun and rewarding for musicians of all levels. Genres could include tunes from Cape Breton, Scandinavia and the Balkans. Play melody, harmony, rhythm or even simple long supporting notes (great for beginners as a way to be part of a big band).

 

The third session will be a dance evening in Buckland. Those who wish are invited to join the band on the tunes learned at the Farmhouse sessions.

 

Instruments for our orchestra can include:

(not necessarily limited to these)

  • Strings
  • Winds
  • Reeds

 

Schedule:

4:00 – Arrive and get settled

4:15 – Music session 1

5:00 – Break time/drinks/light snacks

5:15 – Music session 2

6:00 – Food time (Soup and Salad etc.)

7:00 – Mini concert by Staff

7:15 – Review and Open Jam

9:00 – Bye till next time

 

Instructors:

Becky Ashenden and Addie Rose have been making music together since the early 2000’s. Their combined world of Contra dance, Scandinavian music, and Balkan dance music, along with  years of performing offer a unique background for our budding Fabric of Life Fireside Orchestra. They both have a passion for the music itself, as well as passing an enthusiastic torch to new players.

This music series is being organized in honor of David Allen Kaynor, who spent many decades nurturing and inspiring our dance music community, and now it is our turn to carry the torch forward. The scholarship fund will help make music more accessible to those with limited resources.
