In light of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, Fabric of Life made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person events for the remainder of 2020. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to being together with you all again very soon, virtually for now, hopefully in person in the near future.

Instructor: Ang Roell

Ang Roell (they/them/their) is the owner of They Keep Bees in Montague MA.  Ang has taught beekeeping at the University of Massachusetts and traditional food ways courses at the Franklin County House of Corrections.

Program Description

Day 1: Nutrition & Biology of the Honeybee
In the first session of this two-part series, Ang will provide an overview of the anatomy, physiology, and social structure of honeybees and their hives. Ang will explain honeybee nutritional needs and take participants through the tasks and activities of mindful beekeeper’s year reflecting on how to plan for bringing bees into their lives. Participants will leave this workshop with a deeper understanding of honeybees, the annual cycle of healthy hive care, and a vision of what beekeeping would look like integrated into their own daily life.

Day 2: Hives & Honeybee Management
In this second session of this two-part series, Ang will cover the types and components of honeybee hives and the various management styles. Ang will outline the appropriate equipment for different styles of hives, and provide guidance on how to work with the rhythms of the hive for optimal success. Ang will also guide participants in creating an apiary design and action plan for their scale and circumstance. Participants should leave this workshop with a plan in place to integrate beekeeping into their gardens, homesteads or farms.
